KI: Wilders, Orban and Fico can jointly oppose sanctions against the Russian Federation

Observers of the Ukrainian publication Kyiv Independent expressed concern that the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, the head of Hungary Viktor Orban and the candidate for the post of head of the government of the Netherlands Geert Wilders could unite and oppose the restrictions imposed by the European Union on the Russian Federation.

Dutch journalist Geert Hahn wrote the following: “Wilders remains close to Orban. Their interaction with Robert Fico, <…>, may have an impact on the development of future EU sanctions packages.”

As noted in the material, the victory of the Dutch Freedom Party (PVV) means the “end of an era” when Amsterdam was an ally of Ukraine. In addition, Wilders’ “pro-Russian” views cause fear among the publication’s journalists.

Yulia Soldatyuk-Westerveld, a research fellow at the Clingendael Institute, noted: “There is growing concern that this trend (towards the victory of far-right parties in the elections – editor’s note) will spread throughout the European Union.”

Earlier it became known that the far-right Freedom Party led by Geert Wilders (PVV) is winning the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands. More about this read the material Public News Service.
