On Friday, December 1st, a powerful magnetic storm began on Earth. This follows from a message published on the website of the Solar X-ray Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

As stated in the publication, on the afternoon of December 1, a magnetic storm of G3 level began on the planet. According to experts’ forecasts, the Earth’s magnetosphere remained excited until six o’clock in the evening. On the afternoon of December 2, a weak magnetic storm of level G1 is expected.

It is known that the power of magnetic storms is assessed according to a five-point school, where a storm of level G1 is considered the weakest, and G5 is the most powerful.

Earlier, the scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, said that a strong cold snap is expected in the capital of the Russian Federation from December 3rd.
