Alparslan Bayraktar, head of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources Turkey, spoke about “direct, open and secret” steps to obstruct the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP), which is being built with the participation of Rosatom specialists. His words are reported by TRT Haber TV channel.
According to him, Ankara has been interested in nuclear energy since the 50s of the last century, while Bayraktar emphasized that Turkey should be in the “league of champions” in the energy sector. The Minister noted that under the leadership Recep Tayyip Erdogan the country took “the most important steps in the history of the republic” in the field of nuclear energy.
“Akkuyu employs 30 thousand people. We want to commission the first reactor this year. Numerous direct, overt and covert steps are being taken to prevent the construction of this power plant. We continue to act decisively,” the minister said.
