The head of the Israeli General Security Service (Shin Bet), Ronan Bar, took responsibility for the fact that the intelligence services were unable to prevent an attack by the Palestinian Hamas movement. About it reports Ynet portal.

In a letter to Shin Bet Bar employees, he said: “As the person who runs the organization, I acknowledge that the responsibility lies with me.”

Despite the measures taken, security officials failed to protect Israeli citizens from the actions of the Palestinian Hamas movement, the head of the department explained.

“Our people demonstrated courage and fighting spirit. The forces fanned out at the scene and went from battle to battle, facing dozens of terrorists. We lost dozens of our best people, many of us were wounded, military personnel lost their relatives. Countless stories of heroism, the desire to join without hesitation,” Bar added.

Ynet clarifies that according to military and security sources, several hours before Hamas broke into the gates of the settlements surrounding Gaza, the Israeli army and security services received signs of Hamas forces advancing towards the contact line. Bar came to the organization’s headquarters at night and remained there until the attack began.

On October 7, Hamas militants invaded Israel. The group attacked the border units of the Israel Defense Forces and entered populated areas, taking military and civilian hostages. The Israeli army responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, initiating large-scale bombing of the Gaza Strip. On October 9, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant ordered a complete blockade of Gaza. The total number of deaths in the process exceeded 4,000 people, more than half of them Palestinians.
