EU leaders called for strengthening the fight against sanctions evasion

Leaders of member countries European Union called for strengthening the fight against circumvention of sanctions against Russian Federationas well as prepare new sanctions against Belarus, Iran And North Korea. This was stated in the statement following the summit.

As stated in the document, the European Council calls on the EU Council and the European Commission to further strengthen sanctions against Russia, as well as to introduce preparatory work for further sanctions against Minsk, Tehran and Pyongyang.

“The European Council welcomes the adoption of the 13th package of sanctions against Russia. <…> The European Council asks <…> to improve the exchange of information and interaction with third countries, to close all loopholes both within the union and outside it. This includes preventing the circumvention of sanctions through third countries and ensuring their compliance,” the document states.
