In Italy, a pensioner died due to an erroneously high amount in a housing and communal services receipt.

In Italy, a pensioner died after she saw an erroneously high amount in her utility bill. RaiNews24 writes about this, RIA Novosti reports.

In early December, Caterina Giovinazzo from Liguria was hospitalized in shock after her water company wrongly billed her. Instead of 55 euros, the pensioner was ordered to pay 15 thousand euros for water. Due to severe stress, the 88-year-old woman died.

She felt bad when she found out that the bank had already written off half the amount from the cards to pay the receipt. Afterwards, the woman’s brother was able to explain to the company their mistake, and the money was returned to the owner’s account.

“We immediately began the necessary checks and contacted the woman’s relatives, confirming that the amount of 15 thousand euros indicated on the receipt was incorrect, as it was calculated on the basis of an incorrect photograph of the meter readings. The photo sent was from another person’s account,” representatives of the organization commented on the situation.

Earlier, lawyer Alexander Tolmachev warned about rising prices for electricity and other resources. More about this read the material Public News Service.
