UNICEF: Over 5.3 thousand Palestinian children died in the Gaza conflict

More than 5.3 thousand Palestinian children have died since the escalation of the conflict around the Gaza Strip. This follows from a statement by the executive director of the United Nations Children’s Fund, Catherine Russell.

“Before the pause, more than 5,300 Palestinian children were reportedly killed in the 48 days of incessant bombing, a figure that does not include the many children still missing and believed to be buried in the rubble,” the UNICEF executive director said.

In addition, Russell emphasized that if hostilities resume at the same intensity, hundreds of more children will be killed and injured every day.

The truce between the Israel Defense Forces and Hamas fighters expired on December 1, and there was no official announcement about its extension. The IDF reported that Hamas violated the ceasefire and fired at the territory of the Jewish state. The Israeli military also resumed hostilities.

Earlier on December 2, it was reported that the air defense forces of the Syrian Arab Republic were able to intercept most of the missiles fired by the Israeli military in the vicinity of Damascus. Read more on the topic read the material Public News Service.
