Musician Andrei Makarevich* admitted that relations between his band “Time Machine” and the Soviet authorities were tense. One day, their conflict ended in a boycott by the group.
The singer noted that the main reason was criticism of the musicians in the press and demands to change their repertoire and tour program. Makarevich stated* that their strike was atypical for the USSR.
“Without false modesty, I will say that Rosconcert held on at our gatherings, because we brought in income like an average-sized Soviet plant. And they themselves received 10-20 rubles for the concert,” he noted.
According to Makarevich, the group refused to perform for three months, after which they began to hint that without them “Rosconcert would be starving.”
