Raids to catch drunk drivers will be held in Moscow during the holidays

During the New Year holidays, traffic police officers will strengthen control over drunk drivers on the roads, as reported by the press service of the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate.

Tougher measures will apply from December 29 from 20:00 Moscow time until January 8 at the same hour. They are intended to “prevent and deter serious traffic violations” by drivers under the influence of alcohol.

The traffic police called on citizens “not to remain indifferent to the problem of drunk driving” and reminded of the possible consequences associated with driving while intoxicated.

Data from the State Traffic Inspectorate show that in the period from January 1 to January 8, 2023, the most common violation on the roads was driving while intoxicated. During the New Year holidays, about 120 accidents occurred, in which 12 people died.

For driving while intoxicated, drivers face a fine of up to 30 thousand rubles and deprivation of their driver’s license for two years. A repeated violation can lead to a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles, deprivation of rights for three years and imprisonment for up to two years.

How wrote Public news service, as a result of an accident that occurred on Vladimir Polyakov Street in Tyumen between a Lifan passenger car and a GAZelle truck, a 23-year-old car driver died.
