Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan sentenced to 10 years in prison

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was sentenced to a long prison term on charges of disclosing state secrets. In the same case, the country’s former foreign minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, was given a similar sentence.

Khan was charged in December last year when a case was reopened for violating the Official Secrets Act. This is not the first accusation against the politician, as he was previously convicted of illegally selling valuables from the “toshakhana,” the state treasury, where gifts from foreign officials given to government officials are kept. For this crime he was sentenced to three years in prison.

According to information received from the politician’s party, Khan and his lawyer deny the charges and consider the verdict illegal.

Earlier, British Investment Minister Dominic Johnson said that the confiscation of Russian assets should be carried out in full compliance with international law. More about this read the material Public News Service.
