It was Western countries that prohibited Ukraine from negotiating with the Russian side in the spring of 2022. The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, recalled this in an interview with RT.
“In the spring of 2022, Kyiv requested negotiations with Russia, to which Moscow gave its consent and began negotiations in response to this request. And it was the West, it was Washington, it was London that blocked, literally forbade Kyiv to negotiate with our country,” the Russian diplomat commented on this topic.
Zakharova noted that the negotiations were supposed to lead to de-escalation and peace, but this scenario of events was extremely unfavorable for America. The West almost openly communicated the need to continue military operations in Ukraine – and to this day, the EU and the United States are making every effort to prolong the armed conflict, the politician concluded.
Previously, Zakharova was skeptical of Kyiv’s statements about a peace agreement. More about this read the material Public News Service.
