China supports Russia in protecting its interests, security and development, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at a press conference following the One Belt, One Road forum in Beijing.
“China supports the Russian people in following their chosen path of national revival and protection of state sovereignty, security and development interests,” – quotes Statement by the Chairman of China Central Television (CCTV).
He noted that China is ready to continue to strengthen interaction and cooperation with Russia, in particular at the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the G20.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a press conference following the forum, called allegations that Russia was allegedly “losing the war” in Ukraine ridiculous. The President also emphasized that Kyiv, if it wants a negotiation process, should not limit itself to “some theatrical gestures,” but first of all cancel the decree of the President of Ukraine prohibiting negotiations.
The Kremlin regularly declares its readiness for negotiations with Ukraine. In February and March 2022, the parties held negotiations several times. Three meetings took place in Belarus, the fourth in Istanbul. After this, Kyiv pulled out of the negotiations and the process was frozen. At the end of 2022, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Russia will not follow other people’s conditions, since it is guided only by its own goals and common sense.
