Two-factor authentication at State Services will become mandatory for everyone
Two-factor authentication on Gosuslugi will become mandatory for all users of the portal from October 28. About it reports Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation.
Now, to log into your personal account on Gosuslugi, after entering your login and password, you will need an additional confirmation method. We are talking about a one-time code from SMS, a code from a special application (TOTP) or login using biometrics. TASS with reference to the document writesthat the corresponding resolution has already been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
“Two-factor authentication at State Services is necessary to increase security and strengthen the protection of personal data,” explained the Ministry of Digital Development. According to the department, almost half of the portal’s users have already connected this function – over 41 million people.
After the new rules come into force, you will be able to log into Gosuslugi without two-factor authentication only once to clarify the data and choose a method of additional protection. The latter can be done in the “Security” section; subsequently, the protection option can be changed.
If the user does not select a method of additional login confirmation, then the next time he tries to log into his account, a banner with security options will appear. It will not be possible to use “State Services” until a person chooses one of them.
Previously, two-factor authentication on State Services was mandatory only for new users of the portal and for those who restore an account. This is the rule was introduced from October 1.
