The volume of money supply in national definition in Russia increased by 2.1%

The money supply (M2 aggregate) in the national definition in Russia increased by 1.82 trillion rubles. (+2.1%) in August. The figure amounted to 90.11 trillion rubles, follows from data Bank of Russia.

In total, from the beginning of 2023 to September 1, the volume of money supply in the country increased by 7.72 trillion rubles. (+9.4%). The annual growth rate of the indicator in the period from August 1 to September 1 decreased from 24.7% to 22.9%.

The volume of cash (M0 aggregate) as part of the money supply over the last month of summer increased by 131.5 billion rubles. (+0.8%). The total amount is 17.38 trillion rubles. (12.6%).

By September 1, the annual growth rate of cash in Russia accelerated and amounted to 28.9%. This is the maximum since March 1, 2021 – then the figure was 29.6%. The share of cash in the total money supply in August decreased from 19.5% to 19.3%.

Experts at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in July that increases in the money supply in developed countries have had a stronger impact on inflation since the early 2020s. According to the IMF, government regulators need to tighten control over emissions.
