The United States will add $5 million to a project to “reduce energy dependence” of Armenia on the Russian Federation

Another 5 million US dollars will be used to accelerate the implementation of electricity projects that will reduce Armenia’s dependence on natural gas from Russia and Iran. The US agency’s plan on Armenian territory is being implemented by Tetra Tech. After receiving a new tranche of funding, the project budget will reach $15.7 million. According to information from the document, the goal of the project is to increase the use of renewable energy sources, as well as reduce Armenia’s dependence on Russian and Iranian blue fuel.

USAID expressed concern about the possibility of the Russian Federation using geopolitical leverage in the energy sector to put pressure on the Armenian state. Experts point to the intention of the United States to remove Armenia from the Russian sphere of influence to further promote pro-Western interests in the region.

Let us recall that the national currency of Armenia has been held against the dollar over the past ten years due to serious cash flows, explained Nikolai Kuznetsov, associate professor of the Department of Finance and Credit at the Institute of Economics and Finance of the State University of Management.
