The State Duma called for reducing electricity tariffs to reduce prices for chicken and eggs

To reduce prices for meat, chicken and eggs in Russia, it is necessary to reduce electricity tariffs. This was stated by the First Deputy Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on Agrarian Issues Oleg Nilov.

“I have already said many times that in Russia we have the highest electricity tariffs for farmers“, — noted he is in conversation with the Parliamentary Gazette.

The State Duma deputy emphasized that electricity is one of the largest expense items in the cost structure of final products. “And the entire agricultural industry as a whole takes away only one and a half percent from the total capacity that our energy producers produce,” the speaker noted.

He expressed confidence that without reducing electricity tariffs there will be no reduction in prices – for domestic or imported products.

The parliamentarian suggested that we are talking about a “hidden lobby that is interested in Russia being dependent on import supplies for as long as possible.” He clarified that this applies to a wide range of products: from breeding chicken to potatoes, cucumbers and tomatoes.

“It is this lobby that needs to be fought – only then will we be able to achieve our own food security and stop rising prices,” the media interlocutor concluded.

Previously, the Public News Service reported that over the last 11 months of 2023, Belarus has become the main egg supplier for Russia (94.1% of all imports).
