The Mir payment system began operating in Venezuela



The Russian payment system Mir has begun operating in Venezuela, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

According to him, there are more than 80,000 terminals operating in the country that accept Mir cards, transmits TASS on the results of the 17th meeting of the intergovernmental commission of Russia and Venezuela.

In July, Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov toldthat the country has begun testing a payment system. At that time, card payments were accepted on Margarita Island; their work was only being tested in Caracas.

In July, Director of the National Payment System Department of the Bank of Russia Alla Bakina toldthat in 2023 the regulator plans to introduce cards of the Mir payment system to five or six new countries. Speaking about the fears of countries due to secondary sanctions, Bakina noted that some states are worried about the threat of restrictions and are listening to sanctions. At the same time, there are countries that are ready to cooperate with Russia. Mir cards are accepted in Belarus, Abkhazia, Armenia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, etc.
