The judges decided to boycott the Greek Championship matches due to threats to life and health

According to SDNA, football referees decided to boycott the Greek Football Championship games from the 14th round because they do not feel safe. They wrote a collective letter, which they sent to the head of the Greek Football Federation Panagiotis Baltakos, the country’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Minister of Public Security and the Minister of Sports.

The document states that the reasons for this decision were the arson of the house and store of Andreas Gamaris and threats towards Thassos Papapetrou and his relatives.

“In recent years, Greek and foreign referees have become targets, punching bags and scapegoats. <...> The referees of the top division decided not to perform their duties in any match starting from the 14th round of the Super League and until the conditions become normal for our physical integrity,” the appeal notes.

Earlier on Tuesday, December 5, the International Olympic Committee issued a statement according to which it refuses to change previously approved recommendations for the participation of athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus in competitions.
