The Crimean Bridge was restored 18 days ahead of schedule



Work to restore the Crimean Bridge was completed 18 days ahead of schedule, vehicle traffic on all four lanes is open, reported Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Marat Khusnullin in his Telegram channel.

The Crimean Bridge was being repaired after it was attacked by Ukrainian surface drones on the night of July 17. The car part of the bridge was damaged and two people were killed.

Khusnullin said that the work lasted less than three months. During this time, the builders dismantled two damaged spans and installed new ones.

“Moreover, a temporary bridge was erected for the first one, the second one was pulled up in just eight hours. Both spans required 534 tons of steel structures. More than 360 tons of asphalt concrete were used for the road surface,” the Deputy Prime Minister wrote.

Traffic on the left side of the bridge was opened on September 14, a day earlier than planned. It was expected that the right side of the bridge would be restored by November 1, but this was also done faster “thanks to the heroic work of everyone who participated in this unique work,” Khusnullin added.

The last time the bridge across the Kerch Strait was attacked was on October 8, 2022. As a result of the explosion of a truck passing over it, a car part was damaged and three people were killed. The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case under an article on terrorism. The FSB named the head of Ukrainian military intelligence Kirill Budanov as the organizer of the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge. According to the department, 12 accomplices in the preparation of the terrorist attack have been identified, and eight people have been detained.

The restoration of the Crimean Bridge was carried out by the Nizhneangarsktransstroy company. At the end of July the government extended the period for restoration of the facility is until December 31, 2023.
