The court sentenced a Russian serviceman to 12.5 years in a treason case
The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Russian serviceman Eldar Kamalov to 12.5 years in prison in a maximum security colony. About it reported TASS with reference to the press service of the court.
The court found him guilty of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The maximum penalty under this article is life imprisonment. In addition, by a court decision Kamalov was deprived of his military rank.
The verdict has not yet entered into force. Kamalov’s defense can appeal the court’s decision. The meeting itself was held behind closed doors due to the materials of the case being marked “secret”.
According to law enforcement agencies, Kamalov was a member of the rank and file of the Russian Armed Forces; he was detained more than a year ago. No other details of the case are provided.
October 16 FSB reported about the detention of a resident of the Trans-Baikal Territory on suspicion of treason. According to the department, she was collecting information about the movements of Russian military personnel who were supposed to go to the special operation zone, and passed it on to the Ukrainian special services.
