SR: Irregular diet increases chronic pain

Scientists from Linköping University in Sweden conducted a study that showed that irregular meals and frequent consumption of fast food can increase the severity of chronic pain syndrome. The results of the study were published in the journal Scientific Reports.

As part of the study, researchers examined data from 2,152 people suffering from chronic neck and lower back pain, as well as hypermobile Ehler-Danos syndrome and fibromyalgia. More than half of the participants reported experiencing chronic pain for more than five years.

Correlation analysis showed that irregular diet and frequent consumption of fast food were associated with increased severity of chronic pain. It was also found that a small amount of fruits and vegetables in the diet, as well as excessive consumption of confectionery products, had a negative effect on the severity of the pain syndrome.
