Russians began to buy fewer bananas

According to research company NielsenIQ, demand for bananas fell in January-February Russia. RBC reports this.

During this period, retail chains sold 20% fewer bananas compared to the same period last year. At the same time, demand for apples decreased by 9%, while spending on them increased by 13.5% than in 2023.

Deputy head of the board of the Rusprodsoyuz association Dmitry Leonov drew attention to the fact that a drop in demand for bananas has been recorded since the fall, which is unusual for the cold period.

One of the main reasons for the decrease in banana consumption by Russians, according to the general director of the Berry Union and the industry agency FruitNews Irina Koziy, is their rise in price against the background of changes in the exchange rate of the Russian ruble.

It was previously reported that against the backdrop of the decision of Rosselkhoznadzor to withdraw claims against banana producers from Ecuador, suppliers of this type of product to Russia are working to find alternative ways to purchase products.
