Russian yachting champion Vitaly Elagin disappeared off the coast of Chile

Champion of Russia in yachting sports and the ex-head of the VDC Orlyonok yacht club, Vitaly Elagin, disappeared off the coast of Chile. According to the Mash Telegram channel, the man has not been found for four days, and both sails of his ship were damaged.

On October 1 last year, Elagin set off on a trip around the world from the African port of Tangier. On his yacht, he expected to cross the Atlantic Ocean, pass through the Canary Islands, round the Cape of Good Hope and head east. The last time the athlete got in touch was on March 19, reporting difficulties in control. On the same day, he disappeared from radar off the coast of Chile.

It is noted that during this period the weather in the region worsened. In Chile they announced plan SAR (search and rescue). They are searching for the man using airplanes, but there is no current information about his whereabouts yet.
