Russia will begin supplying pork to China in the 2nd-3rd quarter of 2024

Russian pork will begin arriving on Chinese markets in the second and third quarters of 2024. About this reported press service of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

“China occupies a leading position in terms of pork consumption by the population. We consider the market of this country to be the most promising for the supply of domestic pig products,” said the head of the department, Maxim Reshetnikov.

China allowed Russia to supply pork to its territory after assessing the risks and analyzing the Russian government control system for African swine fever (ASF). The country has lifted the restrictions that it introduced back in 2008, the Ministry of Energy clarified.

Before starting exports, Russia will need from three to 12 months to sign a protocol on the requirements for pork supplied from the Russian Federation to China, agree on a veterinary export certificate, certify product manufacturers and register them in the Chinese food supply system (CIFER), the department’s press service added. .

The lifting of the ban on the supply of Russian pig products to China is the result of many years of work, the head of the National Union of Pig Breeders, Yuri Kovalev, previously told Vedomosti. According to him, “everyone was dealing with this issue,” including the president, the government, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rosselkhoznadzor. The key request to the Chinese authorities from the Russian Federation was “recognition of Russia’s regionalization regarding African swine fever,” that is, permission to supply pork from regions that are free from the ASF virus.
