Rosselkhoznadzor warned about the risk of foot-and-mouth disease spread

The head of Rosselkhoznadzor of the Russian Federation, Sergei Dankvert, during a speech on Wednesday, February 7, at the All-Russian Congress of Milk Producers and Processors, announced the risk of the spread of foot-and-mouth disease due to cases of the disease in neighboring countries. RIA Novosti reports this.

The department emphasized that they intend to keep the situation under control and prevent the spread of the disease.

Cases of foot-and-mouth disease serotype SAT-2 were identified at the end of 2022 in the Gulf countries and Turkey. Against this background, Russia has developed an anti-foot and mouth vaccine containing an exotic strain of the virus. Nevertheless, Dankvert called the current situation tense.

“We, of course, quickly made a vaccine last year, but the movement of migrants in Europe, in general all things related to the movement of migrants, increase the risks we have,” the publication quotes the head of Rosselkhoznadzor.

Earlier it was reported that Rosselkhoznadzor decided to ban the import of carnations grown in Ecuador from the Netherlands, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania.
