Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told colleagues from the North Atlantic bloc that he is taking steps to ratify Sweden’s application to join NATO, which could take place before the end of 2023. This information is shared by Reuters, citing a senior State Department official.
After a meeting of the heads of diplomatic departments of the North Atlantic Alliance in Brussels, an unnamed official said that the completion of ratification of Stockholm’s application could take place in a few weeks.
According to the diplomat, “the main essence of the meeting was that this (ratification) will be done before the end of the year.”
It is known that the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament decided to postpone the discussion of the bill approving the protocol on Sweden’s accession to the North Atlantic bloc.
