Russia has always supported the creation of a Palestinian state, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference following the One Belt, One Road forum in Beijing.
“We have always advocated the creation of a Palestinian state – independent, sovereign, with its capital in East Jerusalem. We have been talking about this for a long time, the international community has been talking about this for a long time, starting in 1948, when the task was set to create two independent sovereign states,” he said.
He noted that he does not know whether the current crisis is conducive to solving this problem, but if it were so, then “it would be right, it would create the conditions for a possible future world for a long historical perspective.”
On October 11, Putin at the plenary session of the Russian Energy Week also notedthat Russia has always advocated the implementation of the UN Security Council decision on the creation of an independent Palestinian state. Putin said that both in the United States and Israel there are politicians and experts who hold a similar point of view
On October 7, the Hamas group began military operations against Israel. The militants attacked army border units and entered Israeli populated areas, where they captured an unknown number of hostages, both military and civilian. In response, the Israeli army launched Operation Iron Swords, and the government declared the country was going into a state of war.
According to the latest data, the death toll during the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has exceeded 4,000 people, more than half of them are Palestinians. On the evening of October 17, it became known about an attack on the Al-Ahly hospital in the Gaza Strip, which, according to media reports, killed more than 800 people. The IDF and Palestinian militants blamed each other for the strike.
