Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the family and friends of the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, composer Gennady Gladkov. Telegram published Kremlin press service.
Putin called Gladkov an outstanding composer, the author of wonderful, beloved music for popular films, animated films and theatrical productions, and his work as a bright page in the history of Russian art.
“The bright memory of Gennady Gladkov will forever remain in the hearts of loved ones, friends, colleagues, all admirers of his great, generous talent,” the president added.
Gladkov’s death became known on October 16. According to his assistant Malik Aminov, he “passed away peacefully” at the age of 88.
Among Gladkov’s most famous works are music for popular films, TV series and cartoons: “Kid and Carlson”, “Well, Just Wait!”, “38 Parrots”, “Point, Point, Comma”, “Gentlemen of Fortune”, “12 Chairs” , “Dog in the Manger”, etc. His popularity was brought to him by his work on the musical cartoon “The Bremen Town Musicians” (1969) and its sequel “In the Footsteps of the Bremen Town Musicians” (1973). In total, his music appears in more than 110 films.
He received the title of People’s Artist in 2002; in 2011, for many years of creative activity and contribution to the development of domestic musical art, he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree. In addition, Gladkov was the winner of two Nika prizes from the Russian Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, as well as the Icarus National Animation Award in the honorary category “Master” (2021).
