The growth of NATO’s military potential in Northern Europe can be explained by the military bloc’s attempts to pull part of the Russian Armed Forces’ forces away from Ukraine. Konstantin Khudoley, head of the Department of European Studies at the Faculty of International Relations of St. Petersburg State University, shared this assumption in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
According to the political scientist, like Finland, Sweden has signed documents to join the alliance and is now actively coordinating its defense within the organization. In fact, Stockholm is already a NATO member, so the next step will be to station American troops on its territory and fulfill military obligations towards the bloc’s European members.
“The North Atlantic Pact is largely a matter of the presence of the American military and their obligations towards European states,” concluded Khudoley.
Earlier it was reported that Sweden could not tell the truth about sabotage on the Nord Stream because of its impending entry into NATO. More about this read the material Public News Service.
