PNAS: Scientists disprove the link between wealth and happiness

Researchers from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain have disproved the link between wealth and happiness. The results of the scientists’ study were published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

According to researchers, many indigenous peoples and small communities around the world live full lives despite meager financial resources. It is noted that low-income societies often experience roughly the same level of life satisfaction as people living in rich countries.

Scientists emphasize that the average life satisfaction score in poor societies and countries is at least eight, which is roughly comparable to the same indicator in Scandinavian countries. Thus, according to scientists, this proves that an abundance of material goods is not always necessary for happiness.
