Phys.org: Binary star T Coronae Borealis will flare brightly in 2024

Scientists reported the outbreak of a new star, which people will be able to notice from Earth with the naked eye this year. Phys.org portal reported this.

It is specified that the celestial body is located at a distance of three thousand light years. The star is part of the binary system T Coronae Borealis (T CrB), which includes a red giant and a white dwarf. It is known that a white dwarf attracts matter from a red giant and thus increases its own mass.

The material noted that eventually there will be enough mass for thermonuclear fusion reactions to occur, after which a rapid release of energy will occur. Because of this, the star will become brighter.

As astronomers noted, this process is part of the natural life cycle of both stellar bodies, which lasts 80 years. It is noted that after the white dwarf becomes a nova, it will again take gas from the red giant and accumulate gas at a similar rate before eventually flaring again.

Earlier, a bright meteor flashed over Ufa. More about this read the material Public News Service.
