One person killed in an attack on a school in France
One person was killed and two were injured when an unknown assailant attacked the Gambetta-Carnot secondary school in Arros in northern France. transmits TV channel BFMTV.
It is specified that the incident occurred around 11:00 local time (12:00 Moscow time). A teacher was killed, another teacher and a security guard were injured. The latter’s condition is assessed as serious. There were no injuries among the school students.
According to the TV channel, the attacker was a 20-year-old young man who had previously studied at this school. When attacked, he shouted “Allahu Akbar.” He is currently detained. According to BFMTV, the young man was born in Chechnya and is included in the list of alleged radicals of the French Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The police also detained the suspect’s younger brother, who was near another school.
Against the backdrop of what is happening, the French Ministers of the Interior and National Education, Gerald Dermanin and Gabriel Attal, demanded that security around educational institutions be strengthened. French President Emmanuel Macron went to the scene of the incident. The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the attack on the school. It is clarified that the case will be investigated under articles of murder and attempted murder in connection with terrorist activities, as well as conspiracy to commit terrorist acts.
