More than 20 people died when a bus carrying tourists fell from an overpass in Venice
A tourist bus fell from an overpass in Mestre, a mainland area of Venice. At least 21 people died as a result of the tragedy. transmits La Repubblica.
Another 18 people were injured, four of them are in serious condition. The Prefecture of Venice reported that two of the dead were children. The bus was equipped with a hybrid methane-diesel fuel system and could catch fire after touching an electrical cable, the publication notes. Reuters clarifiesthat the bus, for an as yet unknown reason, fell from a height of 30 m onto a power line next to the railway tracks and caught fire. According to emergency services, at least five Ukrainian tourists were among the dead.
Investigators are considering the version of the accident due to the deterioration of the driver’s health – there are no signs of braking on the highway, writes La Repubblica. The driver himself died as a result of the accident.
The mayor of the city, Luigi Brugnaro, declared city mourning for the victims of the waria. “Apocalyptic scene, no words,” he wrote on his X page.
