Media: Israeli government may close Al Jazeera branch

The Al Jazeera branch in Israel may be closed by government decision, transmits Ynetnews portal.

“The government approves emergency rules for the closure of broadcasters that harm the security of the state, which will allow the closure of Al Jazeera in Israel,” the statement said.

The decision to close the TV channel must be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, after which Communications Minister Shlomo Karai will be able to issue an order to this effect.

Earlier in support of the closure of Al Jazeera bureaus in Israel spoke Mossad intelligence, the National Security Council, the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Defense Minister Yoav Galant and Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi. It was reported that among the reasons for the closure was the disclosure of information about the location of Israeli Army (IDF) installations.

On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas began military operations against Israel. The IDF responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, striking hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government announced that the country had entered a state of war. On October 17, an airstrike was carried out on the Al-Ahly hospital in the Gaza Strip, for which the parties blamed each other. Al Jazeera calls this strike Israeli. According to various sources, the attack killed between 500 and 800 people.
