A new brand of passenger cars has begun to be produced in Belarus, President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting, transmits Belta agency.
“We will show it to the people soon. We started producing a new brand of cars. You see how life has turned: cars are in demand,” he said.
Lukashenko recalled that the republic intends to create production in cooperation with the Chinese FAW Group under the Hongqi brand. Geely’s production capacity is planned to be increased from 30,000 – 40,000 to 120,000 cars per year, he added.
The Belarusian-Chinese company Belgi opened serial production of Geely passenger cars in Belarus in the fall of 2017 at a plant 70 km from Minsk. Then the company noted that 90% of the products would be aimed at the Russian market. Manufacturing includes welding, painting, interior, chassis and general vehicle assembly lines.
Before this, Minsk tried to assemble Ford, Skoda and Iranian Samand cars, but all projects were closed for various reasons.
