Renaming a city may not serve as a reason for confiscation of a foreign passport. RBC shares the relevant information. The journalists referred to data received from the managing partner of the law firm “Fair Solutions” Mikhail Reprintsev.
He told reporters that some residents of Yekaterinburg complained about the confiscation of foreign passports at the border. This action was justified by the fact that in the “City of Birth” column some of them had Sverdlovsk, the name of which does not coincide with the information specified in a regular passport.
“The historical name Yekaterinburg was officially returned to Sverdlovsk, that is, they are one and the same city. Therefore, this fact of discrepancy in information due to the renaming of the city is not grounds for confiscation of a foreign passport under Federal Law 114,” the lawyer said, commenting on this situation.
Previously Public News Service reportedthat lawyer Dmitry Lebedev told whether it is necessary to change the international passport due to new changes in the law. He recalled that the federal law came into force on December 11, 2023.
