Lavrov: BRICS does not need to be turned into an organization with a secretariat

BRICS today is an association of countries, and it is not yet worth reforming it into an organization with a secretariat. About this on the TV channel NTV said Sergei Lavrov, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

“BRICS is not an organization, but an association. I don’t think anyone has any interest in turning it into a real organization with a secretariat. This is not necessary, at least at this stage, for a relatively long term,” the minister said.

Previously, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Central African Republic (CAR), Sylvie Baypo-Temon, said that Bangui has a desire to become a full member of BRICS, but for this to meet a number of criteria: “Of course, the CAR would like to be a member of BRICS. Now we need to stay grounded and be realistic. Because there are also a certain number of criteria.”

Previously, Moscow topped the ranking of BRICS cities in terms of human development, beating 100 other megacities, according to the international City Human Potential Ranking. Read more about this in material Public News Service.
