Israel admitted that fighting against Hamas would take months
Defeating the Palestinian group Hamas could take months. This was stated by member of Israel’s emergency cabinet, former head of the country’s Ministry of Defense (until December 2022) Benny Gantz.
“It will take a lot of time. War in the south and, if necessary, in the north or elsewhere could take months. And recovery will take years,” he said (quote according to The Times of Israel).
According to Gantz, Israel’s goal is not just the destruction of Hamas, but also the provision of “100 percent paradise” in the south. He added that after the end of hostilities and victory, Israel “on each of the battle fronts will devote itself to this reconstruction.”
On October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched Operation Iron Swords. The Israeli government announced that the country had entered a state of war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promisedthat the country’s response to the Hamas attack will change the Middle East. According to the latest data, over 4,500 people have died as a result of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, most of them Palestinians.
Amid the attack on Al-Ahly hospital in Gaza, the Shiite group Hezbollah announced October 18th is the “day of wrath” against Israel. At the Iranian Foreign Ministry earlier admitted the possibility of the republic entering into the conflict and taking preventive measures against Israel. Tehran clarified that the “red line” is a possible Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip.
