Russian climber Nadezhda Oleneva fell into an ice crack while climbing in the mountains of Nepal from an altitude of more than 6000 m, a search is underway for her. reported Russian Embassy in Nepal.

They noted that they continue to take part in the search for the athlete, the Russian side is in touch with the travel company Himalayan Guides, which was involved in organizing the ascent. The embassy also announced plans to send a search and rescue helicopter to the incident area on the morning of October 15.

“An earlier departure was not possible from a safety point of view due to the heavy fog that had descended. We are in constant contact with the relevant structures and organizations of Nepal,” the statement says.

Previously, The Himalayan Times cited sources. reportedthat Oleneva disappeared around noon on October 14, falling into a crevice from a height of 6680 m. The Russian climber was climbing as part of a group of three people. It was also reported that the climbers planned to climb Daulagiri without using supplemental oxygen.
