Golikova: the competition for pedagogical specialties in universities was 12 people per place

During the 2023 admissions campaign, the competition for teaching specialties in universities was 12 people per place. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova at the ceremony honoring the winners of the all-Russian competitions “Teacher of the Year in Russia – 2023” and “First Teacher”.

“I am pleased to say that in recent years the authority of a teacher has been growing, and this is evidenced by admission to higher educational institutions to major in teaching. This year that’s 905,000 applications. Our competition is 12 people per place,” she said (quote according to TASS).

According to Golikova, many young teachers come to schools. She added that the state’s task is to create conditions so that the profession is “even more in demand and respected.” The Deputy Prime Minister noted that teachers “do the most important thing,” since “not a single profession can exist” without a teacher.

On October 5, Teachers’ Day is celebrated in Russia. Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated teachers on the holiday. “A teacher – we often talk about this, and this is really exactly the case – is not just a profession. This is a calling, a noble mission, the most important in its essence,” said He. Putin wished teachers health, happiness, prosperity and stated on expanding support measures.
