The Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) expressed its disapproval of the Russian junior team’s refusal to accept awards at the Future Cup in Minsk after losing the final to the tournament hosts with a score of 5:6 in overtime.
The hockey players decided to leave their medals and cups on the ice during the awards ceremony, but later apologized.
“We regret if our actions with the awards at the ceremony could be considered disrespectful,” the team said in a statement released by FHR.
The athletes explained their actions by emotions and disagreement with some decisions of the referees during the game.
The FHR said it condemns the behavior of its athletes and will conduct an investigation into the circumstances that led to the misunderstanding surrounding the decision of the junior hockey team players to leave team and individual awards on the ice.
Earlier it became known that Ovechkin’s goal did not save Washington from defeat in the match with Vancouver. More about this read the material Public News Service.
