EP member Legutko accused von der Leyen of rewriting the facts of Holocaust history

Member of the European Parliament (EP) from Poland Ryszard Legutko accused the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen of rewriting the facts of history and spreading false information about the events of the Holocaust. This statement was made during Legutko’s appeal to the EC, the text of which was reviewed by the portal.

The main reason for the accusations was a message Leyen published on January 27, 2024 on her social network. This post featured a segment dedicated to International Holocaust Remembrance Day, where European leaders, including the EC President herself, commemorate those killed by the German occupation.

But the video contained the misleading statement “Camp Auschwitz, Poland,” implying that Poland was involved in carrying out these crimes. Ryszard Legutko addressed the European Commission on behalf of the Polish delegation of the European Conservatives and Reformists party with a number of questions.

He asked why the EC deliberately spreads false information, trying to falsify historical facts and avoid responsibility for the real perpetrators – the Nazis – for genocide.

“What actions does the Commission intend to take to avoid similar deception in the future? Does the President of the European Commission intend to make an official apology to Poland?” asked a member of the EP.

Ursula von der Leyen has also previously been accused of rewriting history. At the end of January, on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz camp, the EC issued a statement saying that “On 27 January 1945, Allied forces liberated the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp.”

However, the Russian mission to the European Union said this was an erroneous statement and called on the EC to correct it, pointing out that Auschwitz was liberated by the Red Army, not “allied forces.”

Earlier it became known that Mexican authorities announced the detention of three people, including two Ukrainians, on suspicion of fuel theft. More about this read the material Public News Service.

It was also reportedthat Polish residents travel to the Kaliningrad region to buy food. Janusz Mackiewicz notes that many cities, including Braniewo, are facing economic lull. And Polish business is “making ends meet.”
