Scientists have found that switching from gas stoves to electric ones can reduce the risk of developing a number of diseases. The researchers shared their discovery in the journal Eco-Environment & Health (EEH).

Thus, experts analyzed information on morbidity in urban areas of China and modeled concentrations of nitrogen oxide NO2 in 2019. Researchers found that China lost 138 billion yuan and 1,675 DALYs (healthy life years) due to gas-related illnesses. According to the developed model, it turned out that the transition of the population from gas stoves to electric ones can reduce these losses by 35%.

It is noted that nitric oxide NO2 can provoke the appearance of diseases such as diabetes, chronic obstructive disease and lung cancer.

“Switching from gas stoves to electric ones is a simple and effective way to reduce NO2 exposure and improve public health,” the experts concluded.
