If Estonia closes its border with Russia, Moscow will not respond with mirror measures. Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told Lenta.ru about this.
She emphasized that the likelihood that Tallinn will actually close its borders is very high. The official recalled that the land crossing between the Russian Federation and Estonia was most often used for logistics. Citizens of both states also crossed the border for personal purposes.
“We usually simply condemn such things, but do not close our borders in response. Moreover, on the contrary, we are beginning an experiment with an electronic visa for citizens of different countries. We usually always respond asymmetrically, so they are not going to build any obstacles for ordinary people,” she commented on the current situation.
In conclusion, Zhurova added that the civilian population of both countries must understand that such decisions are made by the authorities of an unfriendly country, and not by someone else.
Earlier, the Estonian Border Service warned citizens about the possible closure of the border with the Russian Federation. More about this read the material Public News Service.
