Chernyshenko proposed paying prize money to the winners of the “Games of the Future” in cryptocurrency
Prize payments to participants in the Games of the Future can be made in cryptocurrency to limit tournament participants from sanctions consequences. This proposal was made by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko at a meeting of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports.
He noted that for the successful holding of sporting events, such as the BRICS Games and the Friendship Games, it is necessary to adopt certain legislative initiatives, as was the case during the Olympic Games or the World Championship.
“In the case of the Games of the Future, this concerns the payment of prize money to the winners of the tournament in cryptocurrency, including in order to avoid sanction consequences for the participants,” Chernyshenko said at the council, which takes place as part of the “Russia – a Sports Power” forum in Perm.
Among Chernyshenko’s voiced proposals there are also free visa support for participants and tax breaks. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that when holding eSports tournaments, a license from foreign companies is required and there are mechanisms through which this can be done without violating laws and rights.
The State Duma is considering a bill to establish the principles of such initiatives for the “Games of the Future,” Chernyshenko added. He asked the president to recommend that the State Duma consider it at the autumn session.
“Games of the Future” will pass in Kazan from February 23 to March 2, 2024. This is a tournament that involves combining e-sports and classical sports competitions in different disciplines. More than 2,000 athletes from about 100 countries will take part in it; they will compete in 16 hybrid disciplines. The prize fund will be $25 million.
