CERN laboratory plans to lay off almost 500 employees with ties to Russia

European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) ends cooperation with approximately 500 experts associated with Russiaby the end of November, informs CERN representative Arnaud Marsollier, RIA Novosti reports.

Financial support from Russia is no longer available, and scientific projects related to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be transferred to other groups.

Nevertheless, cooperation between the Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS and CERN will continue until 2024, approximately until the fall. CERN is considered the world’s leading laboratory for high-energy physics, and the LHC has produced key discoveries including the Higgs boson.
