European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell warned that without the support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), other agencies of the international organization would not be able to operate fully in the Gaza Strip. RIA Novosti writes about this.
“No other UN agency, such as the World Food Program (WFP) or the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), can handle operations without the infrastructure, logistics and staff of UNRWA,” Borrell said.
Earlier, the head of the press service of the United States State Department, Matthew Miller, said that the UN should complete its investigation into UNRWA as soon as possible and begin to reform it.
He stressed that Washington does not diminish the importance of UNRWA’s humanitarian work in the Gaza Strip, but one cannot ignore suspicions of the agency’s ties with the Palestinian organization Hamas. More about this read the material Public News Service.
