German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is facing resistance over his plans to reduce the number of inspectors general in the Bundeswehr as part of a planned military reform.

The reform proposes restructuring the armed forces to create leaner and more capable structures, despite the possible loss of positions for senior generals.

At a meeting of the Supreme Military Council, all six inspectors general expressed their disagreement with the department’s plans. In addition, it is planned to eliminate the position of logistics inspector. Instead, the army will be managed by four inspectors in different areas: land, air, sea and cyberspace.

Pistorius is also considering merging the military health department and the army’s logistics management department as part of the proposed reform.
