Bastrykin ordered to open a case after the beating of passers-by in St. Petersburg


Chairman of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed initiate a criminal case into an attack on passers-by in St. Petersburg.

In St. Petersburg, a group of immigrants from Azerbaijan beat up random passers-by, posting footage of the beating on Telegram, the press service clarifies. Previously, the media wrote about a group of young people from Azerbaijan who filmed beatings of passers-by in St. Petersburg, damaging property and posted it on the Internet. It was reported that the videos from their Telegram channel have now been deleted.

In the fall of 2021, a group of three people beat Roman Kovalev, who stood up for a girl in the Moscow metro. Then the attackers were detained immediately after the incident, and Bastrykin instructed to prepare documents for awarding Kovalev the medal “Valor and Courage.” Later, the young man was personally awarded by the head of the Investigative Committee.
