Aydınlık: The US wants to receive payment from Ankara for servicing retained F-35s

According to the Aydınlık newspaper, the United States of America intends to receive money from Turkey for the maintenance of F-35 fighter jets, which the state was unable to purchase due to the presence of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system produced by the Russian Federation.

“The American side has been keeping six F-35A Lightning II fighters in the hangar for six years, which Turkey paid for. These aircraft undergo monthly maintenance to ensure they are ready for service. The United States demands from Turkey payment for the hangar and the costs of maintaining fighter jets,” the publication notes.

Earlier, White House Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby announced during a briefing that the United States of America refused to supply F-35 combat aircraft to Turkey due to the presence of Russian S-300 and S-400 air defense systems.
